Kelsey Huson, Doctoral Candidate

Thank you for being here! Whether this is your first time seeking help or you are well into your healing journey, I’m truly grateful to be part of it. No matter the circumstances, getting to this point is not easy but it is progress. I’ve had the privilege of helping many couples and individuals from all walks of life to navigate their relationship challenges, feelings of anxiety or worry, numbness or low mood, experiences of grief and loss, health complications, parenting challenges, and several other difficult life transitions. If you are feeling ready for change (or even just curious), then I would be more than happy to help you work toward creating a life that feels meaningful and fulfilling for you – step by step.

Nearing the completion of my PhD in Counselling Psychology at McGill University, I have gained significant experience providing individual, group, and couples therapy using an integrative approach which draws from various techniques to tailor interventions best suited for each client, including (but not limited to) Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness practices. In addition, I have taught at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as co-facilitated several workshops and groups for all ages.

Prior to returning to graduate school, I worked in health research and evaluation across a variety of settings, including healthcare, academia, public health, and non-profit organizations. These roles also allowed me to serve people from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and gender identities. It has long been my aspiration to pursue a career dedicated to helping others and I believe that all my experiences to date have brought me to this definitive point: working together alongside you.

Overall, I aim to create a space where my clients feel safe, empowered, validated, and free of judgement. Using a person-centered approach, I help individuals and couples better understand and address their present challenges and cope with potential future obstacles, all while fostering a strong therapeutic relationship which remains the foundation of our work. I strive to build relationships with my clients based on trust, genuineness, and reciprocity. I consider myself a lifelong learner and am fortunate to be in a position where I can share my learnings and experiences with others such as yourself. I, too, hope to learn from you, as I believe that individuals are the experts of their own lives and we can all contribute to one another’s growth process – one of the many benefits of therapy.

While my specialized interests include couples work, health psychology, and the mind-body connection, my clinical practice focuses on supporting a wide range of psychological concerns, including relationship challenges, anxiety and obsessive-compulsive behaviours, depression, stress management and emotion regulation, difficulties with attention and executive functioning, career challenges, meaning making, and processing grief and loss. Personally, I enjoy being a Mom, travelling and exploring new places, practicing yoga and meditation, going for long walks with my dog, eating delicious food, having a good heart-to-heart, and spending time in cottage country.
